However, making popcorn that is identical to the ones you can buy in movie theaters is not as easy as it seems. Some people are able to make delicious popcorn but not quite the same as those in movie theaters. Below is a guide, as well as some tips to help you make movie theater style popcorn right in your own home.
· Kernels. Ditch the packed popcorn mixes that you can find in the supermarket. Instead, go for the white kernels that are sold plainly and packed in various sizes. Check the packaging date of the kernels and choose the most recently packed. Once you have bought the kernels, make sure that you cook them in the next few days or if not, put them in an airtight container to maintain the moisture inside the kernels. Never put the kernels inside your refrigerators because this will cause them to dry out.
· Popcorn machine or popper. The first thing you will need is a good popcorn popper machine or a stovetop popcorn popper. Make sure to research a good popcorn machine or popper before buying one. Choose a machine or a popper that will allow some steam to create. Doing this will produce crunchier popcorn.
· Oil. Most movie theaters make their popcorn with coconut oil which also explains the wonderful popcorn smell that wafts through movie theater lobbies. If you want a healthier alternative, you could try using canola oil.
· Flavoring. No matter what flavoring or seasoning you want to put on your popcorn, make sure that you allow it to cool for around a minute before putting the seasoning. The easiest seasoning you can put if you want movie theater style popcorn is Flavacol, a mix of salt, yello food coloring, and artificial flavoring. If you want your popcorn to be more customized to your taste buds, then adjust the salt and butter accordingly. If you want salt on your popcorn, make sure that it is in powdered form which you can easily purchase or make by crushing table salt in a blender. When it comes to butter, it is better to use clarified butter or ghee which is made by gently melting regular butter until it separates and getting the pure butter at the top of the mixture. You can also easily purchase ghee from natural food stores.
